Collect 5 Snow Daze tokens and enter for a chance to win weekly and monthly prizes! You could also win the grand prize - $1,000! Increase your chances by collecting more tokens! Super Bowl Extravaganza

Have you heard about Super Bowl Extravaganza 2012?!
Join us at the Patriot Club on January 14 at 3 p.m. You could win cash, NFL autographed memorabilia, auctions and a trip for two to the 2012 Super Bowl!

What is Super Bowl Extravaganza?
Super Bowl Extravaganza is a high energy, fun-filled event featuring two themed buffets and three rounds of bingo, drawings and auctions!

How does it work?
Purchase your tickets at the Patriot Club, Community Center/ITT, Willow Lakes Golf Course or Peacekeeper Lanes. For a limited time, tickets are only $60 for Patriot Club members and $70 for non-members. Don’t wait too long; this Early Bird Special won’t last forever!

Join us at the Patriot Club on January 14. Doors open at 3 p.m. Show your ticket and collect your Super Bowl Extravaganza mug, which contains your game cards and tickets. Additional game cards and tickets will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Find your seat and head over to the Tailgate Buffet from 3 – 4 p.m. to enjoy some delicious food!

$100 Pre-game bingo begins at 4:30 p.m. (tickets may be purchased separately). Super Bowl Extravaganza begins at 5 p.m.!

There will be three rounds of bingo for cash prizes and drawings for NFL autographed memorabilia! Here’s where it gets interesting. The drawings are winner’s choice. This means if you win an item, you have the option to keep it or auction it off on the spot! The highest bidder pays the drawing winner!

There will be several breaks throughout the evening at which point you will have the opportunity to purchase additional bingo game cards and drawing tickets, should you run out or wish to increase your chances. At the end of the second round, the Half Time Buffet will open! This will give you an opportunity to re-fuel before the third and final round! After the third round is complete, you will have a final break when you may purchase additional bingo game cards for the final bingo game. The final bingo game is played for the 2012 Super Bowl Getaway Package, including two tickets to the 2012 Super Bowl, air fare, hotel accommodations, tickets to the VIP party, and $500 spending money! It may be chilly, but Outdoor Rec. will keep you busy!

Nestled near the small town of Brainard, Nebraska, only a short 45 minute drive from Omaha, lies the Oak Creek Sporting Club. Oak Creek offers hunts, skeet/trap shooting, a rifle range and much more. Outdoor Recreation is offering a substantial discount on Oak Creek Club memberships. An annual membership, regularly purchased at Oak Creek for $150, is now only $25 through September 2012 if you purchase through Outdoor Rec. There are still a few slots open for the 2nd Annual ACC Aero Club Youth Day Camp! The Camp will be held on August 6 and August 13 at the LeMay Aero Club on Offutt AFB. Deadline to register is July 29 for August 6 Youth Camp, and August 5 for August 13 Youth Camp.
This outstanding program provides 13 -18 year olds the opportunity to find out about various aviation careers, participate in a group ground class, and take a one hour supervised introductory flight.
Schedule:
9 a.m. - Aviation Careers
10 a.m. - Group Ground Class Pand Airplane Ground Class
12 noon - Lunch (provided - included in price)
1 - 5 p.m. - 1 hour Supervised Introductory Flight
In the event of inclement weather, rain checks will be issued for the flight portion only and must be redeemed before Sept 20, 2011.

Tops In Blue takes center stage July 6 at 7 p.m. at the Music Hall at the Civic Center for one performance only! The show theme, "Rhythm Nation” features the jazz of Nat King Cole and Billie Holiday, the great rock n’ roll sounds of Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, the cool Motown R&B of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, hits by J-Lo and Michael Franti, some inspirational country sounds and much, much more! The weather is warming up and the pools are now open!Capehart Pool is open every day from 12 – 8 p.m. The Base Pool is open every day from 1 – 6 p.m. Lap Swim is Monday – Friday only, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 6 – 7 p.m. Daily pool use fees are $2/DoD ID cardholders (ages 3 and up), $3/guest, $75/ Family Pool Pass, $50/ Individual Pool Pass.

Swim lessons begin soon! All sessions will held Monday - Thursday and make-up days are Fridays if needed. Session 1 (evening session) begins June 6 - 16 at the Base Pool. Sign up at the Capehart Pool on June 2 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. Session 2 runs June 20 - 30 at Capehart Pool. Sign up at the Base Pool on June 16 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Have you heard about the Offutt Angler Award? Offutt Angler and Offutt Jr. Angler recognize anglers for their catches at the Base Lake. A printed certificate is awarded for a fish meeting the minimum length criteria based upon species and angler's age. Additionally, the biggest fish recorded in each category between April 15 and October 15 will receive a 2012 base lake fishing permit. Jr. Anglers will receive a boathouse gift certificate and a water bottle. To qualify for the award, a photo of the angler holding the fish must be provided and an Offutt Angler form filled out. The holiday season is in full swing, and the school break is almost here! Wondering how to keep your children busy while they're out of school? Here are a few ideas...

Have an afternoon of family fun at Peacekeeper Lanes! During the school break, Peacekeeper is offering $5 unlimited bowling Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. As an added bonus, food is only $3 more!

Youth Programs is hosting H.E.A.T, the Hip-hop Education Awareness Tour on Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. This group promotes positive outlook and teaches the history/culture of hip-hop dancing with a DJ. Admission is free, but canned goods donations are greatly appreciated. For more information, contact Youth Programs, 294-5152.

Youth Programs and Henry Doorly Zoo are offering daycamps over the holiday break for children ages 8 - 12 years.
Tuesday, Dec. 28: Sea Turtles 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Are you looking for a family-friendly party for New Year's Eve? Then don't miss the New Year's Eve Extravaganza at Peacekeeper Lanes! One of Offutt's favorite family events, this party features food, entertainment and of course, Extreme Bowling! Champagne and sparkling cider are available at midnight and there are great door prizes. Reservations are being taken now, and the spots go quick, so be sure to sign up early before it's sold out! This is a great time of year! School's in full swing, the air is finally cooling off and you know that Halloween is just around the corner. Halloween is a "just for fun" holiday that kicks off the holiday season. Children (and adults) can pretend to be someone or something else for a day and let their creativity soar. And there's candy. Lots of candy! What more can you ask for?
Some of the FSS facilities are getting into the Halloween Spirit (pun intended) and have several events going on throughout the month.
Haunted Movie Night
Youth Programs is hosting a Haunted Movie Night on Friday, October 15 from 7:30 - 10 p.m. Youth 8 years & younger must be accompanied by a parent! Please bring a pillow & blanket. Cost $1 per person. Children's Halloween Party

What's Happening in September?

People are sometimes complaining there's nothing to do in Nebraska. The 55FSS facilities have lots going on all the time!

Equipment Rental has some awesome specials for September - stop by and see what else they have to offer! You can rent 2 float inner tubes and get 2 float inner tubes free or rent 1 canoe/kayak and get the 2nd free or get $10 off a daily boat package.

Speaking of outdoor activities, have you heard about Rockin' at the Lake? It's a FREE concert at the Base Lake featuring Gooding's national 50 in 5 Tour. Grab a blanket or some chairs, the show starts at 6pm on September 10. Who doesn't love outdoor concerts?

If you're more of an "indoor-fun" type of person, Fall Leagues are forming at Peacekeeper Lanes - it's not too late to sign up! Contact 294-2541 for more information about registering. There will also be a special clinic aimed toward beginning bowlers on Saturday the 4th from 1 -3pm. It's open to everyone and best of all, it's free! Coaches will be on hand to teach everything from the fundamentals of bowling to lane etiquette.

In addition to Peacekeeper Lanes, there's always something happening at the Patriot Club. Head over to the Raider's Lounge, September 10, 5 - 6 p.m. for a chance to play Offutt's Minute to Win It! Six contestants will compete by performing tasks using simple household items in under a minute to win up to $100! Oktoberfest is always fun! There is no shortage of activities going on, either.
Peacekeeper Lanes has Food&Fun Fridays and Saturdays where you can get 3 hours of unlimited bowling, shoe rental, a pitcher of beer for $40. Not old enough for beer or beer just not your thing? Just substitute an ice cold pitcher of soda and pay $35. Have you tried the new menu items and food specials? Yum! Peacekeeper Lanes has a lot to offer, so go check them out!
There's always tons going on at the Community Center, but have you heard about Krav Maga? It's the official self-defense and fighting system of the Israeli Defense Forces and various US police departments. It's open to adults of all ages whatever the skill level. It's held on Tuesday evenings 6:15-7 p.m. You can even try the first month for free, after that, it's $40/month. Have you tried Zumba yet? It's being offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm with Brandi or at 7pm with Tonya. Classes are $5 or $30 for a month punch card which is good for 8 classes.
The Patriot Club always has lots to offer, but most exciting is the upcoming Football Frenzy KickOff party on September 9th. Oh wait, then there is the Grand Seafood Buffet on the 10th!

Now's the time to swing, before the snow flies!

It's hard to imagine given the recent heat wave we've been experiencing here at Offutt, but winter is just around the corner! It would be a great time to take advantage of the special events and discounts at Willow Lakes before the green turns to white.

The Willow Lakes Base & Club Championship will be held August 21 and 22 at the beautiful Willow Lakes Golf Course. The tournament format is a 36 hole, individual stroke play. A USGA handicap is not required for this tournament and flights will be determined after the first round. You must be active duty, a retiree, or a DoD civilian to participate in the tournament. The cost is AGF/$40, Non-AGF/$50 and to enter in both, the cost is AGF/$50, Non-AGF/$70. The cost includes green fees, prizes, and lunch on the second day of the tournament. Entries must be received by August 15 and late entries will be accepted for an additional $5. Sounds like a fun weekend!

Willow Lakes is also offering a special "end of summer" discount on ALL DAY greens fees. E1-E4 can play weekdays for only $10, and weekends for $13. E5-O10/civilians can play weekdays for $14 and $17 on the weekends. While you're there, grab a hotdog, chips, and a fountain soda for just $3.25 during the month of August.

Even better, head over to Willow Lakes to play at a discounted rate from August 30-September 3 while they aerate. The cost for E1-E4/$6, all ID cardholders/$10, non-ID cardholders/$14.

Oh, those dreaded words! At least if you are a child! But here at Offutt, we're trying to make the transition month of August much more fun, with a variety of late-summer activities for children and adults alike.

August 13 features a double-header of fun, with a Back to School Youth Lock-In at Youth Programs, 8 p.m. - 6 a.m. that will include the special pirate-themed Dive-In Movie at the Capehart Pool, starting at 9 p.m. After the movie (don't forget your inflatable toys!), we will return to YP for a cook-out. Play dodge ball, water balloon tosses, rock band tournament, and many other games! Sign-up by August 11. Cost: $5 for YP members, $7 for non members, $9 for non military; and $3 if you are attending just the Dive-In. Pool hours will be changing soon as well - Back to school hours for the Capehart and Base Pools will begin August 16. As we head into the back-to-school months, things are starting to pick up again at Offutt's Peacekeeper Lanes, for adults and children alike! The Bowling Center is currently undergoing a series of renovations, including new pinsetters, to make play even more fun... Here's just a sampling of what's coming up!

Bring your squadron in to bowl away the afternoon, and take advantage of the Pinsetter Renovation Squadron Special! Be the first squadron to book your function in the month of August and get the lowest price of the season. Reserve ten lanes (min. of 50 people) for $150 flat rate - that's just $3/person for three games of bowling and shoe rental!

Offutt families are invited to come out to the Family Fair sponsored by the Airman and Family Services Flight, Saturday, April 24, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Youth Center for a day of fun!

There are tons of activities for the kids including pony rides, hands-on activities, bouncy castles, a child-size grocery store, clowns, informational booths, treats and more! All of the activities are offered to the Offutt community free of charge! There will be lunch available for purchase.

The Community Center is hosting a "Cook It Up" at the Family Fair as well! Adults and children are invited to submit their creations to be judged in the categories of two different cookie challenges, "No Bake Cookies" and "Cookie Makers Special" and in a five ingredient only "Mix It Up" entree competition. Recipes and food must be submitted by 11 a.m. Prizes for first, second, and third place will be awarded at 12 p.m.

There will also be special guest Trevor Romain, best-selling children's book author, speaking at the Capehart Theater at 1 p.m.--come out and listen to the hysterical, motivational talk he has to share with parents and children alike!

Swing into Golf Season!

Golf season is in full swing and Willow Lakes and Warrior Nine golf courses have a variety of programs for golfers to enjoy!

Willow Lakes Two-Person Team League sign-up has begun! Monday nights, April 5 - August 30, 5:15 p.m. tee time, golfers can compete in this two person team league play! This league is a match/medal play, handicap league. Handicaps will be established the first week of play. The entry fee is $100/team which includes $20 registration fee and $80 to the prize fund! Greens fees and carts are paid separately each week. There are only 24 team slots available.

Make Fridays date night and come out to the Warrior Nine for Couples league! This league plays Friday nights, 6 p.m., at the Warrior Nine Golf Course from May 7 - July 30. The Awards Ceremony and Couples Cook-out will round out the league following the final round of play on July 30. Tired of sitting on the sidelines while all of your friends spend the summer golfing? Willow Lakes Golf Course has the Adult Learning Golf Program just for you! Do your kids want to learn how to golf? Sign-ups have begun for ACC Junior Golf Camps! Youth can learn the game of golf and even play in a mini-tournament. What better way to start off than by taking a ski trip to Keystone, CO? The Snofest Ski Trip, January 38 - 31, is devoted to the military community, filled with special events, recreation opportunities, and great times with friends! $375 covers transportation, three nights’ stay in condo, two days of lift tickets, and ski rentals (price reduced if not skiing), and there is a $75 Active Duty member discount available for ski/board rentals and lift tickets, through ACC Adventure Program Grant. Skidding down the mountain not quite what you are looking for? Well, how about hunting? Outdoor Rec is sponsoring a Pheasant Hunt in Stanton, NE, on January 15, leaving at 6 a.m. and returning around 5 p.m. $125 covers transportation, entry fee, and field dress instructions.

Or maybe you'd prefer ice fishing at Pinkie’s Lake on January 23, from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.?Dress warmly! Fishing assistance and water will be provided all day, and chili will be served on the ice! There are two ways to purchase discounted tickets through the base. The first is by going to Information, Tickets, & Travel in the Community Center. They offer a special opening-night price of $12.50 for the December 30 show at 7:30 p.m. There are also tickets for shows on January 2 at 2 p.m. and January 3 at 4:30 p.m., with prices ranging between $14.50 and $18.50, depending on the seats. The second way to get tickets is by being a member of the Youth Center, Enrichment Center, CDC, or FCC programs. Family members of those programs can purchase tickets through Youth Programs for the 10:30 a.m. show on January 2 for $17.50. For more information, call 294-1686.

Air Combat Command recently announced Offutt AFB as the 2010 ACC Hennessy Award winner, Multiple Category, for best food service operations in the command. Offutt, along with Davis-Monthan AFB (Single Category winner), will represent ACC in the 2010 Air Force Hennessy Award competition. Every year, the Force Support Squadron, the Base Chapel, and local businesses sponsor the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, a beautiful family event that will take place this year on December 3. In addition to photos with Santa, refreshments, live entertainment, arts and crafts, holiday bingo, singing by the Children's Parish Choir, and prize drawings, this year's event will feature the Elf-Mart!

The Elf-Mart is a "store" that lets children go holiday shopping for their parents, where all the gifts cost just a penny! In order to make this happen, WE NEED YOUR DONATIONS! Please contribute unwrapped gifts for mothers and fathers, valued up to $5. Just giving one $5 gift to the Elf-Mart will let an Offutt child experience the joy of giving a gift to their parents!

The Hennessy Award

King Dining Facility, the Campisi Alert Dining Facility, and the Flight Kitchen — will be competing this fall for the 2009 Hennessy Award, one of the Air Force’s most prestigious awards. Established in 1957, the Hennessy Award rewards bases for excellence in dining programs. Offutt AFB is a finalist and will compete against Nellis AFB for ACC-level recognition.

Whoa, it's been a while since we posted here! I think we've been thrown off by all this cold weather. And snow? In October? Even for Nebraska, that's a little early!

But yes, it IS October, which means there's a flurry (haha, get it?) of Halloween activities coming up this month!

First there's the Musselman's Halloween on Ice show, starring Mannheim Steamroller, coming up this Sunday, October 18, at 5 p.m. at the Qwest Center. Tickets cost between $24 and $94, depending on the seats, and can be purchased from ITT in the Community Center (294-5406)--but hurry! Tickets are only available through October 15!

For families with young kids, the Moms, Pops, 'n' Tots toddler playgroup will be hosting a Halloween party at the Community Center PlayZone, next Wednesday, October 21, from 9:30 – 11 a.m. Join us for ghoulish treats, spooky crafts, and not-so-scary story time! Cost: $1 / family. Sign up at the Customer Service Desk in the Community Center.

Going on all month long is the Halloween Bowling Pin Decorating Contest at Peacekeeper Lanes! Pick up a bowling pin between now and October 28 and decorate it however you’d like for a Halloween contest! Return the decorated pin anytime before October 30. The winners (in several age groups) will be selected and notified on October 31. There are limited numbers, so come in early to get your pin!

New Military Spouse Appointing Authority

Great news for relocating spouses...!

The Office of Personnel Management has published a new military spouse employment appointing authority, allowing military spouses to be appointed to federal service positions, even if they have no prior federal experience. Eligibility: spouses of active duty members who have received PCS orders; spouses of 100% disabled members whose disability was the result of active duty; unmarried widows and widowers of members killed on active duty. Spouses can use the authority for up to two years from the date of the member's PCS orders or documentation verifying the member's 100% disability or death. There is no limit on the number of appointments for spouses of 100% disabled members or deceased members; one appointment is allowed per PCS order for relocating spouses. To use this authority, spouses should apply to federal service positions as external candidates through USAJobs.com. Applicants must meet job qualifications. Fall Sports

It seems a little early for fall, but we have to admit, the weather has definitely been headed that way this week! And with the onset of autumn comes a variety of fall sports, with lots of opportunities for watching and playing at Offutt!

If you're under 18 and want to improve your bowling skills, don't miss the Youth Bowling Clinic at Peacekeeper Lanes this Saturday, September 5, 1 – 3 p.m. Come learn bowling fundamentals, skills, and scorekeeping! A free Nebraska Bowhunter Education Class will be offered at the Base Lake Pavilion, September 12 and 13, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days. This course is for anyone (ages 11+) who requires Bowhunter Education to hunt in Nebraska or other states. You must attend both sessions to be certified. 2009 Offutt Open House & Air Show

Every year, Offutt AFB hosts an Open House—an exciting opportunity to open the gates to the surrounding community and demonstrate the Air Force mission. 2009 is no different, and this year’s Offutt Open House and Air Show will be Saturday and Sunday, August 29 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission.

“We want to let the community know what the base does,” said Maj Eric Nelson of the Open House Office, also staffed by MSgt Jonathan Suthard, TSgt Troy Tucker, Maj Ron Jenkins, Capt Nicholas Cenci, and Capt Scott Czuba. “It’s a community relations event to share the Air Force message” through air and ground performances, family entertainment, food, and local organizations.

Headlining the Offutt Open House and Air Show this year are skydiving demonstrations by the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights parachute team, and performances by the U.S. Navy’s F-18 flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels, featuring a special jet-assisted takeoff with a C-130 on Saturday. There will be numerous other aerial performances, including vintage World War II aircraft, acrobatic plane performances, and fly-bys from Offutt’s RC-135s and E4s and the Aero Club’s Citabria and Barron planes.

Local businesses, sponsors, and organizations will be at the event, and plenty of concession services will be available from local restaurants like Carlos O’Kelly’s, Roca Berry Farm, Valentino’s Pizza, and many more. There will also be a “Fun Zone” with youth activities, featuring an aviation-themed kiddie train, cockpit photos, peddle cars, and 17 different inflatables (which will have an admission fee).

Tops in Blue, the Air Force’s acclaimed traveling entertainment troupe, will also be making an appearance as part of their 2009 world tour, “To Dream.” They will be performing on the ramp on Saturday after the aerial demonstrations, around 4 p.m.

The Open House also serves as a positive recruitment tool for the Air Force. Youth are encouraged to investigate Air Force life by talking to airmen and learning about the opportunities available to them in the Air Force. Recruiters from the other military branches will also be represented at the Open House.

Last year’s Open House had over 380,000 attendees, and similar crowds are expected this year. Because Air Shows are wonderful and inexpensive family entertainment, record attendance has been seen at shows all around the country this year. The Offutt Open House will be busy, so plan ahead and pack appropriately. Families are encouraged to bring their own seating with lawn chairs and blankets. Coolers will not be allowed. Parking will be available on the base, as well as off-base at Bellevue East High School, Bellevue University, Southroads Mall, and Northrup Grummon, with shuttle services to base.

The Open House is a significant event that benefits both the surrounding community and the base. “We’re hoping to reach out beyond the immediate Bellevue community,” said Maj Nelson. “If we can reach those people who might not even know that we’re here…we can try to inform them and show them what our mission is.”

With over 1100 volunteers putting time and energy into the Open House, it is truly a tremendous effort by all of Offutt. “It takes every command on this base to kick this show off,” said TSgt Tucker. “There are just so many people to thank. It’s an event by, and for, the whole community.”

Facility Hours

Due to the Offutt Open House & Air Show, some facilities on base will have limited operational hours:

The Education Center, the Human Resources office, and other offices in Buildings C and D will be closed all weekend beginning at 11:30 a.m. on August 27.
The Auto Hobby Shop will be closed August 27 – 31.
Peacekeeper Lanes Bowling Center will be closed August 27, 29, and 30. Hours on August 28 are 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.
The Offutt Field House will be closed August 29 and 30.
Equipment Rental will be closed August 29.
The Aero Club will hold normal operational hours, relocated to PMV.
The Patriot Club Raiders Lounge will be open 4:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on August 29 and 30.

Tops In Blue to Perform at Offutt Open House

Dinner for Families of the Deployed Brings Community Together

On the evening of August 19, parents and children from the Offutt community gathered at the Base Lake, all of them with one thing in common: a deployed mother, father, or spouse. The dinner, games, and camaraderie that followed was all part of the Dinner for Families of the Deployed, an IDS event sponsored by the 55th Wing Chapel, the American Red Cross, and 55th Force Support Squadron organizations like the Airman & Family Readiness Center and Outdoor Recreation.

IDS (Integrated Delivery System) integrates Offutt’s various helping agencies under one umbrella to provide responsive, proactive assistance and services to the Offutt community—services like the Dinner for Families of the Deployed, which is held quarterly. “The point is to have [families] come together to meet other families,” said Mary Burden, the event’s Volunteer Coordinator, “and to introduce them to base helping agencies.”

Over 60 families attended the dinner, with food provided by Ret. MSgt Donald Leeper. The menu included barbecue beef brisket, pulled pork, and hotdogs, along with lemonade, snow cones, cotton candy, and a homemade dessert table.

According to LeAnn Clausen, Outdoor Recreation Manager, “This was the first quarterly IDS event to be held during the summer at the Base Lake. [We wanted to] offer a fun, enjoyable evening with a lot of different activities,” such as bouncy castles, paddleboats, gunny sack races, and sidewalk chalk drawings. Carnival games included a soda bottle ring toss, a beanbag toss, a duck pond, and a treasure hunt, and archery instructor Jim Schwartz coordinated youth and adult archery with regular and compound bows.

Every child received a gift from the prize table, an overwhelming selection of toys and games donated by the coordinating organizations and the chapel community members. Parents participated in a raffle with a grand prize of four tickets to the new Schlitterbahn Water Park in Kansas City.

“We wanted to show appreciation [for the] families of the deployed,” said Chaplain Glenn Bright of the Base Chapel. “[We wanted to] make connections, [both between] families and between families and base agencies and leadership.” The next quarterly IDS event will be Holiday Connections, an annual event held in the fall.

First, today's the LAST CHANCE to register for the Moms, Pops, & Tots End-of-Summer Bash, being held at the Community Center on August 19, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. MP&T is a parent-toddler playgroup that meets in the Community Center Playzone throughout the year--come celebrate the end of the season with old and new friends! Second, it's ALSO the LAST CHANCE to register for the Base & Club Golf Championships at Willow Lakes Golf Course on August 22 and 23. Register with payment by today by calling 294-3530. Tee times will begin at 8 a.m. with flights determined after the first round. Format is 36-hole individual-stroke play. Handicaps will not be used. Active-duty, retired military, and Offutt DoD civilians are eligible to play. Cost: AGF-holders: $26 / Base or Club Championship, $46 / both. Two family events comin' at ya!

First, don't miss tomorrow's Patriot Club Family Membership Night! Club members are invited to enjoy a meal of Southern cuisine, including fried chicken, and play rounds of bingo! Swimming Pool News

Because of this, High Tide Cinema will be relocated to the Base Pool. Wait, what is High Tide Cinema, you ask? High Tide Cinema is a chance to enjoy a movie at the swimming pool on August 8 from 8 - 10 p.m. Bring your inflatable pool toys! Hot dogs will be available for purchase during intermission! You must be 10-17 years old and able to swim at least 12 meters, tread water for one minute, and get out of the pool without use of the ladder. Cost: $3 / person. Patriot Club Events This Week

Friday is also the last day of July and the deadline to sign up for both of YP's football programs: Start Smart Football and Offutt Youth Flag Football. Summer Swimming

It's the end of July, so use the rest of your summer wisely--at the pool!

There are just two sessions left in Outdoor Recreation's Youth Swimming Lessons! Registration is at the Capehart Pool from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on July 23 for Session 4 (July 27 – August 9, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.), and on August 6 for Session 5 (August 10 – 21, 6 – 8 p.m.). Each session holds class Monday through Thursday (Friday is a fun or make-up day) for two weeks. Class levels cover Parents & Tots, basic skills, intermediate swimming, and advanced development. Class length depends on skill level. Cost: $35 / two-week session, cash or check only. Call 294-6466 for more information.

And see what all those swimming lessons can get you: the Omaha Annual Lifeguard Competition was hosted July 10 by the City of Omaha, with 29 teams from the metro area competing in events like relay races, backboarding, CPR, and lifeguard knowledge. Congratulations to the two teams from Offutt AFB! The Otters, with Kate Eaton, Ariel Atwood, Emily Thayer, Ben Yates, and Weston Ernst, won 21st place. The Outlaws, with David Atwood, Diana Manico, Alex Peck, Ashton Porter, and Kaitlin Smits, won 3rd place. This exciting event is a great opportunity for professional development for those responsible for saving lives at our swimming pools!

And finally, last call for pool passes for dorm residents! If you live in the dorms, you can get 2009 Base pool passes for just $10! Some big family events coming up this weekend!

First, Burn Your Own Steak Night is back! Come to the Patriot Club on Friday, July 17, beginning at 4:30 p.m. for a chance to grill up your own steak or chicken breast -- plus enjoy great summer cookout side dishes and a chance to socialize over the grill! Come see what all the fuss is about at the Club! Cost: $5 / Club members; $10 / non-members.

Next, the Missoula Children's Theatre will be giving their official performance on Saturday, July 18, at 1 p.m. at the Capehart Theatre. The musical is "Beauty Lou and the Country Beast," and the show is free and open to the public! Come out and support Offutt's youth!

Finally, the Capehart pool is throwing Midnight Glow Madness on Saturday, July 18, 8 – 10:30 p.m. This all-ages event is a great opportunity to kick back at the pool with music, games, prizes, and (of course!) glow accessories. Airman & Family Readiness Center Classes

There are three classes coming up at the Airman & Family Readiness Center this week! The A&FRC offers a variety of classes to assist in life skills and military life preparation, and is a great resource for everyone in the military community! They are located on-base in Building C (by the flag gate) in room 206. For class registration or more information about any of their classes or resources, call 294-4329.

Growing Your Money is a great financial preparation class designed to help you realize your dreams by learning the financial skills necessary to maintain a spending plan, use checking and savings accounts, and build or repair credit. The class is held in two parts on July 7 and July 14, from 1 – 4 p.m.

Bundles for Babies will cover third trimester choices, preparing for labor and delivery, newborn appearance and behavior, basic newborn care, postpartum care, Family Advocacy’s New Parent Support Program, services available through the Airman & Family Readiness Center, and costs associated with having a baby. The class is held on July 7 from 9 – 11 a.m.

We've got some great youth events coming up! The start of July means the start of registration season for two sports events: Youth Flag Football and Start Smart Football.

Youth Flag Football is a Youth Center program for kids ages 6 - 12. Games will begin August 15 and run during the fall. Cost: $27 / Youth Center member; $32 / military non-member; $37 / non-military non-member. For more information, call 232-4386.

Start Smart Football is a parent-child program designed to teach 4 – 5-year-olds the fundamentals of the sport. The program begins August 29. A parents’ meeting is scheduled for August 22. Cost: $40, military / $50, non-military. Call 294-1686 for more information.

Both programs have ongoing registration during the month of July. Parent volunteers are needed for coaching and refereeing!

We've also got Outdoor Recreation's Youth Swimming Lessons! These two-week sessions are going on all summer. The next sign-up time is at the Capehart Pool from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on July 2, for the session being held July 13 – 24, 6 – 8 p.m. Call for additional session details. Cost: $35. Good morning! It's absolutely gorgeous outside today and is a quite pleasant 79 degrees! Perfect! But don't let that fool you -- it's still summer in Omaha (almost July!), so we know it's going to get pretty hot pretty soon! With temps in the mid-80s all week, you'll want to keep that air conditioning going.

Unfortunately, some base facilities are experiencing technical difficulties with their a/c, so beware! The Community Center's been hit pretty hard by the heat. Frame & Design Arts, in the Community Center, is trying to combat the lack of a/c by opening for limited, mostly morning, hours. Call ahead to ensure that they're open to the public! Classes at Frame & Design Arts are also being put on hold until the a/c is fixed, hopefully by July 9. We apologize for the inconvenience!

If you do venture down to Frame & Design Arts, check out the new display of beautiful silver jewelry by professional jeweler Gady Tene, owner of Omaha's ShirTal Jewelry! His gorgeous handcrafted designs make wonderful gifts for yourself or a loved one! He also teaches jewelry silversmithing at the Wood Hobby Shop on Tuesday nights, so come out and learn a new skill!

Ready for the summer holidays? Get your long weekend started off right with a patriotic celebration at the Base Lake!

Offutt's annual Independence Day event will be held on Thursday, July 2, starting at 3 p.m. Attractions include face painting, bouncy castes, fishing derby, balloons, concessions, and a performance by the Heartland of America Band’s group RAPTOR. A fireworks show will begin at dark. Don't miss out on this great outdoor family-friendly event!

Crazy clouds this morning -- it was so sunny at first, and now the sky is all streaked with impending doom! Well, hopefully it will clear up towards the end of the week, and we'll all be able to enjoy the nice summer weather -- especially if we gear up for these upcoming Outdoor Recreation events!

Biking's not your thing? How about camping? Outdoor Recreation has just created a new inclusive Family-Friendly Friday Camp-Out, aimed at families new to camping! Take advantage of this no-fuss camping experience at the Base Lake--the first chance is this Friday, June 26. Camping package comes with tent, sleeping bags, hot dog dinner, s’mores, firewood, and breakfast kit for the morning. Saturday morning we’ll provide a youth recreation activity like archery, a nature hike, or environmental education. This is a great opportunity for those new to camping—let Outdoor Recreation be your host!

As if you needed more reasons to become a Patriot Club member, there are two great programs this week for members and non-members alike!

This Week at the Library

Two events coming up this week at the Thomas S. Power Library!

First is the June meeting of the Offutt Women's Reading Group, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursday, June 11, in the library’s conference room. June’s title is The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. Bring your lunch; drinks and dessert are always provided. And if you want to plan ahead, start reading now for July's book, Teacherman: A Memoir, by Frank McCourt, with a meeting on July 2.

For younger readers, the library will be showing movies throughout the summer in association with the summer reading programs. The first movies will be shown this Saturday, June 13. A children's movie will be shown at 11 a.m. and a teen/pre-teen movie will be shown at 1:30 p.m. So drop by the library for popcorn and fun! The next movie dates are July 18 and August 8.

Pottery Classes

Did you know that Offutt's Frame & Design Arts Center offers pottery classes? Stop by the Community Center (behind the BX) and check them out sometime!

Adults can attend the open pottery studio on Tuesday nights, 6 - 8 p.m., to learn the basics of pottery, or just to play with some clay! Interested in throwing on the wheel? hand-building vases? sculpting figurines or abstract art? You can do all of that and more! Join in anytime! Cost: $5 / class. Clay, glazes, and other materials are available for purchase in class.

Teens are also invited to join in the pottery studio this summer, beginning June 9--again, every Tuesday night, 6 - 8 p.m., for $5 each time. Materials cost extra!

Kids who want to learn pottery can join in on the Kids’ Summer Pottery classes, being held Thursday nights this summer, 6 – 8 p.m. beginning June 11. Cost: $50 / six weeks, plus materials. What a great way to get a little messy and have a lot of fun!

All pottery classes are held in the Frame & Design Arts pottery studio in the Community Center (the glass atrium at the south end of the building!). Register now! Call 294-3837 for more information and to reserve your spot in the class.

The 55th FSS has been really glad to see just how many people are starting to check us out in our new information venues -- so let me take a minute to remind you of the many ways you can keep up-to-date with base events!

Get Involved with Family Child Care

If you're in need of childcare, or you're looking for a job in childcare, be sure to check out Offutt's Family Child Care program (FCC).

Family Child Care creates excellent home-based childcare programs for the military community by certifying providers, providing ongoing support and resources, and getting the word out to Offutt families. FCC-certified homes can care for children ages 2 weeks to 12 years, and can accommodate parents who work swing- and mid-shifts, days, alerts, extended TDY’s, and weekends, as well as PCSing families.

If you live off-base and are a dependent of an active duty or retired military member, you can operate your own Family Child Care business in your home and be affiliated with the Offutt AFB Family Child Care Program! The benefits are substantial: use of Offutt FCC resource materials and equipment, training in child care, mentoring with other FCC providers, and more. The next training class is coming up -- June 1 - 3. For more information, an application, and to reserve your place in the training class, call the Family Child Care office at 294-9016 or 294-9017.

Offutt Enrichment Center

Did you know that Offutt AFB offers a part-day preschool program for children ages 3 - 5? The Offutt Enrichment Center features developmentally-appropriate curricula, monthly field trips, and special activities from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Tuesdays and Thursdays for 3-year-olds; Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for 4-5-year-olds).

The philosophy of the Offutt Enrichment Center is that children learn by first-hand experience, by being actively involved in the classroom environment, and by exploring their world. Play allows children to expand their thinking and language, encourages creativity, and offers opportunities to learn self-discipline. OEC teachers prepare lesson plans for fun learning activities based on observations of interests and developmental needs.

Fall registration for the 2009-10 school year will be open from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., May 26 – 29, and will continue throughout the summer as long as spaces remain available. To register, bring your child’s current immunization records, leave and earnings statement for both working parents, child’s Tricare card, and military ID card to the Child Development Center 2, located on base. Summer Library Programs

There's plenty to do through the Thomas S. Power Library this summer, so don't miss out on these great reading activities!

For teens, the annual Young Adult Summer Reading Program, Express Yourself @ Your Library, will begin today (May 26) and run through July 31. This free program is presented by the Thomas S. Power Library and held at the Bellevue Public Library for grades 7 - 12. In addition to great reading materials, activities will include karaoke, Guitar Hero, henna tattoos, open mic night, tie-dye, movies, a ball, and a variety of arts & crafts! Younger kids can get involved in the Offutt Summer Reading Program, kicking off this Saturday, May 30, and running through August 1. Offutt's military spouses, take notice: the annual Spring Spa for Spouses will be happening this Thursday, May 21, 6 - 10 p.m. at the Bellevue Lied Center (at the intersection of 370 and Fort Crook). This phenomenal effort between the Airmen & Family Readiness Center and local businesses is a way of saying thank you to Offutt's community of spouses, who contribute so much time, energy, tears, and love to the readiness and well-being of service members.

The Spring Spa will feature food provided by Texas Roadhouse, massages, makeovers, local vendors, a fashion show, and--did somebody say chocolate? Yes, there will be chocolate! Don't miss this wonderful (and totally free!) evening of relaxation and pampering, just for spouses!
